My Name is Bridget, and this is my blog. You're not going to find anything too specific about hobbies or anything here. I just write whatever pops into my head. I treat this like a public journal, you know? So go ahead, read about my life, leave a comment, whatever.

Food.
it's a show about a guy named jamie oliver, who goes to huntington, the least healthy town, in the least healthy state, in the least healthy country, in the world. (which by the way, is america.) they showed some facts about food that are really disturbing.
for a start, an experiment revealed that most children in preschool, kindergarten, and possibly older don't know their basic vegetables and fruits. when presented with cauliflower, tomatoes, and eggplant, (which was dubbed egg salad by the kids.) they got the answers wrong, and when presented with a potato, they obviously had no idea because they didn't even bother to guess.
heres another one. they showed how much fat goes into a class of children from preschool age to ten, and it was massive! not only that, it was the look of the stuff. they were actually using real fat, and they had to use a dump truck just to get it from point A to point B.
even worse, when jamie asked about it, he discovered that children (maybe just in the one school, i don't know.) from preschool age, to ten yrs didn't know how to use a fork, or a knife, because they weren't allowed to. thats right, they were forced to use either a spoon, or their fingers to eat their food.
this is the big one.
when you take off the good parts of a chicken, you are left with the strings and giblets of cartilage and tendons that nobody wants to eat. fast food companys have found a way to sneak it into our diets, without us even knowing about it. they take all that gross stuff, and run it through a food processer. then they add flavor, preservatives, flour, and mix it all together into a goo that looks like pink whipped cream. finally, they mold it into a patty shape, and bread it and fry it, creating the disgusting, unhealthy chicken nugget. how can such a horrific creation be so delicious and famous at the same time?
if you want to watch the show, you can find it online:

or watch it on tv, fridays 9:00/8:00c on ABC.

Spring Cleaning.
i Scrubbed the toilets, Cleaned & Polished my room, Cleaned & Polished the stove,
and disinfected the doorknobs, light switches, paintings, both tvs, (the new one & the old one.) and the exercise bike. i don't know why i went on a cleaning spree. i was just bored, i guess.
B-O-R-E-D T-O D-E-A-T-H. so now the stove and the toilets are clean, and most surfaces in the house are germ/dust free. on another note, how is it that just a few days ago i was boiling in a tank top and shorts,
and now i have to wear a coat outside again? sigh. maybe it was a heat wave?
Meh.
Plants.
and FIVE CACTI!!!
they're doing really well, probably because i keep them near a window. oh, did you know that Philodendrons are from the Brazil rainforest? and both Aloe-Vera's and Cacti (well, duh!) are from the desert? my room is an exotic garden. :) i can't wait until one of the Cacti blooms, because when she does, it'll be a BURST of Bright Sunny Orange!!!! it'll be so cool. on another note, we found out that Owen is lactose intolerant, so we decided to experiment with alternatives to Ice Cream.
We discovered that both sorbet, and ice cream made with coconut milk taste delicous.
no seriously, you should try them.

They're black in front, red everywhere else, and VIP is engraved on the side.
They're so cool! they feel a little funny though, because they're made of plastic, but i'll get used to it.
Pictures ASAP!
Safe-Cracker.
so i decided to try and crack it. i put my ear up to the safe, and twisted the dial around randomly.
then, i heard a funny noise, and it popped right open! and there in the safe, was the combination.
What a fluke.

spring.
this tradition has been going on for a while. i'm pretty sure since i was seven!
me and owen are the only ones who do it, but its still fun.
two years in a row, i tried to dry them out on the clothesline so i could pestle them.
and one year i had them in scrambled eggs! mmmmm. we usually do it went its good and warm outside. that way, we can wear short clothing so we don't get too much dirt on our clothes. and an even better reason, thats when the spring onions grow. we don't grown them wild, they're just their. along with wild strawberrys, common wood sorrel, flea bane, and who knows what else! i can't really remember why we started doing it. i guess one year, seven year old me thought it would be fun to pick the onion grass instead of just looking at it. i got owen to join, and voila! a tradition was born. this year, mom didn't like us harvesting the onions. it would have been fine, but when we whacked the grass against the side of the house, it got a ton of dirt on the patio, and when we washed them we got the sink all dirty, and when owen got out a bowl to hold them he broke one. oh well. and now, how to harvest and prepare your spring onions! its real simple. first you dig a hole around the onion grass, as close as you can to the plant. then you grab it as close to the root as possible, and yank it out. then you have to get rid of the dirt. i usually just whack it on the side of the house a few times, and that does the trick.
if you want to put them in scrambled eggs, heres how you do it:
first, follow steps one through three of how to pick them. then wash them. then, separate the grass from the onion. put the onions in the fridge to save them, and any extra onion grass.
then, chop the onion grass up into small bits. finally, proceed to make scrambled eggs, except when you're done stirring them, pour in the chopped up onion grass. Bon apetit!
and remember, there is DEFINITELY onion grass in your backyard. you just have to know what it looks like. of course, if you live in, like, greenland, there won't be onion grass. sorry.
another highlight of the spring: we put the hammock back up! it goes up inside our house, so i had to clean like crazy to make room for it. the hammock is REALLY fun! it quadruples as a swing, a bed, a couch, and a game. (i get on the hammock and start swinging, and owen runs back and forth in front of me, trying not to get hit.) i really like our hammock.
Yet another hightlight of the spring:
i'm getting new glasses soon! i think somewhere around the 15th. i know that isn't really much of a highlight, but its still exciting.
another highlight of the spring:
the St. Patrick's day parade!!!!!!! my brother goes for the candy they throw off the floats,
my dad goes for who-knows-what, and me and my mom go for the bagpipes!
last year was really fun. my friend grace (who is actually irish!) came into town to visit her cousin, and we got to march in the parade, (apparently there's a part of the parade called "irish heritage" that lets anyone march in it.) and, the biggest highlight of the day was, i got to go to graces cousins house to play, and while we were there, the mayor drove up and i got to meet him!
Final highlight of the spring:
the spring is the warmest month of the year that i get to play with lucy, before she goes on her annual summer vacation. (every year she goes to California for three months with her grandma, who they don't see often because lucy moved to New Jersey.)
all in all, spring is the very best month there is.

Harry Potter.
The day I met Harry potter. AKA JP
I was running so hard, that my throat was cold and my legs were aching. My backpack was heavy, and was evidently chafing my shoulders and armpits. I was being chased by my brother and his three friends.
We were playing superhero, they were bad and I was good. I had hired a bodyguard earlier, but he crossed over to the other side. I clambered up the play structure. I needed a place to hide.
I looked right. Nothing. I looked left. The slide! I could slide down, and Jam myself halfway through! They would never think to look for me there!
I ran over, but there was someone in front of it. “excuse me?” I said. “can I get by?” “I don’t know. Are you good?” “what do you mean?” “I am guarding the slide from evil. Are you good?”
I explained to him that I was being chased, and needed refuge quick. “oh!” he said, as I started to slide down. “go ahead good sir!” “I’m a girl!” I said, one eyebrow raised. “oh, I’m sorry.” I slid down to the middle of the slide, and jammed my feet in different directions, so as not to go down the rest of the way. I looked up. I could still see the boy. Hopefully my brother and his friends wouldn’t see me. I heard footsteps. And my brothers voice. “hey!” he said to the boy. “move over, she’s in there!” “I’m sorry.” said The boy (who I was already thinking of as Harry Potter.) “I can’t let you go down. You see, I am guarding the slide from evil, and if you are chasing someone, then you are most surely evil” “come on guys.” My brother said. “lets look somewhere else.” When they were nice and far away, I climbed up the slide. “thanks!” I said to Harry Potter. “I’m Bridget. But you can also call Me Eagle. Whats your name?” then he told me his name, which I can only Recall as JP.
We kept playing superheroes, and Harry kept helping me. on the play equipment, we discovered that we both had a lense out of our glasses, on the same side! Eventually, my brother and his friends disqualified me for making up my own Superhero. (she’s called “the Artist.” She can draw anything in the air with her magic Finger, and make it real.) after that, I went to the highest spot on the playground, and sat down, bored. Just then, Harry came up! “Hi!” he said. “hi.” I said.
“I was wondering if you would like to be friends.” “sure.” I said, standing up he offered me his hand. I looked at him for a bit, and then shook it. He sat down. “what are you doing?” he said, curious.
“right now I’m sitting.” “hmm” I thought. “he’s nice. Maybe I should show him?” I pondered this question to myself for a bit, and then unzipped my backpack. “what are you doing?” he said. “getting something.”
After digging in my backpack for awhile, I pulled out my svendoolia journal. “see this?” I said, opening it. “this is my Svendoolia Journal. The first few pages is sciency stuff, from my month at greencamp.
But then, there’s a map. A map of svendoolia!” “whats svendoolia?” “it’s a place that nobody knows but a special handful of my Many friends. Now, you’re one of them. Anyway, this journal is full of maps of svendoolia, which I draw in my spare time.” “huh.” He said, looking with Interest at my Drawing of the Color pond.
“in my spare time, I like to draw, and write stories.” Now, I was excited. He liked the same things I do! This was evidently fate.
“really?” I said. “me too! I love drawing, and I’ve written five books and a million stories!”
“have you ever gotten anything published?” he said. “not yet, but I’m working on one that should be.”
Then I described to him my new book, “Search for the Aurora Gemstone” we sat and talked for awhile longer, until I started to get bored “hey.” I said.
“do you want to go on a quest for a better understanding of nature?” a question I had asked nearly half the kids on the playground. None answered with anything but no, probably because I always started with “greetings mortal”. “sure!” he said. So we got up, and went to look at rotten logs. Finding nothing there, we went to the lake next to the playground, where I met his younger brother. That’s also where I saw a rubber salamander in the water, discovered many plants that are NOT wood sorrels, and found much onion grass, and a black duck. (a genetic mutation if I ever saw one!)
Unfortunately, it is also where we said goodbye. But fortunately, it is also where I discovered that he had brought his dog too, (we had taken Sadie in the trunk of the car.) and where we exchanged E-mails.
In short, it was a great day.
